When the Eddie Murphy classic comedy "Coming to America" first cracked up audiences, in 1988, there was no such thing as Twitter.
Today, though, we live in a world that Prince Akeem wouldn't recognize. And like so many stories of today, this one starts with a tweet.
Eddie Murphy (or someone) issued a tweet from the actor's official Twitter account.
It was just four words accompanying a picture of Akeem's proposed queen. (The one he made bark like a dog, remember?)
"'Coming to America' sequel?" read the tweet.
That was all it took. The Twitterati lost their minds. However, there's still some question as to what exactly that tweet means.
Murphy's daughter Bria posted a screenshot of a conversation she had with her father via text.
She asked about the sequel. His response? "Twitter account? What Twitter account? I have a Twitter account?"
True to his nature, though, it appears that Murphy was kidding with his daughter.
TMZ reports that the sequel is actually in the works. "Sources close to Eddie tell us he's in the early writing stages of the project," TMZ reported.
